Turnstile Tales

Today I feel like sharing a little bit about my job. I work as a member of Bearforce at the University Center on my campus. I usually am found in the fitness center greeting people and swiping their student ID cards as they enter the gym or cleaning the gym equipment. However, on occasion I will take a shift at the main desk. This position involves me greeting students as they swipe their cards and enter through one of three turnstiles... or attempt to enter.

It has been said that the best part of working at the UC is watching students fail to swipe their cards and nearly face planting when they walk straight into the turnstile. (See, if you don't swipe your card the turnstile does not work.)

I really didn't believe students would forget something as simple as swiping their cards, until my first shift at the main desk. It was nearing the end of my shift and in walked a student talking on his phone not paying a lick of attention to anything. I said my usual line "Hi! How are you?" and then WHAM! he walked straight into the turnstile. As he fumbled to regain his balance and swipe his card, I used all the power inside of me to suppress my laughter. How does that even happen?!?

It was about a week later and I was running late for my shift in the fitness center. I was power walking and worrying I would not make it in time (I stress about things like this!) when I came to the turnstiles. Without swiping my card I walked straight into the turnstile. I do not know how it happened as I usually pride myself on not forgetting to swipe my card, but i did. I nearly face planted and when I regained my composure I was both humiliated and humored. I tried my best to play it off but several people saw it happen, there was no hiding it.

I now understand how some people completely forget to swipe their cards to enter the turnstiles, but it is still funny when they don't.

I would up making it to my shift without a minute to spare... even with my previous slight fall from grace.

What's your most embarrassing work story? I challenge you to share it!

Sunday Sum-Up 2.22.14

Hey guys!

Can you believe February is almost over?

I must admit I have been slacking with my blogging this past week because school has really and truly been rough.

Therefore I am combining two weeks into this Sunday Sum-Up.

The major thing that happened in the past two weeks was Valentine's Day! I went on a picnic and hike with my boyfriend at a local state park! It was wonderful and many pictures were taken!

We decided to go geocaching once we were there (I have to find 25 new geocaches for my 101 in 1001 list!) so I grabbed a few trinkets out of my truck and we set off. We found two over the course of the day and I got an adorable new panda bear contact case! I just can not get over the beauty that lies only a short distance from my campus!

Another major thing that happened these past two weeks is Stompfest! My sorority partnered with Delta Sigma Theta to perform the intermission act of Mercer's Stompfest. We worked for weeks perfecting our routine and it finally came together wonderfully for our performance. I am so proud of my sisters, the Deltas, and our coach for rocking this event!

The rest of the week involved studying, lots of studying. Hopefully it will all pay off on my tests this week and next.

I have some fun posts planned for this week on the blog so keep your eye out! They WILL be posted this week.

Valentine's Day Lovin'

Unless you live under a rock, you know that this Friday is Valentine's Day! In honor of Valentine's Day I want to share a few things with you all.

I made these super delicious chocolates with my boyfriend and I want to share how to do so! (It's super easy, so no worries.)

All you need is pretzel twists, chocolate hearts(I used Dove chocolates), and M&Ms.

Heat up your oven to 350 degrees.

Lay out the pretzels on a baking sheet and place a chocolate on top of each of them. Put them into the over until the chocolates melt slightly. They should still hold their form but be soft (it took about 2 minutes for me). Take them out of the oven and instantly begin to place one M&M on each chocolate. I used the Valentine M&Ms because... its Valentine's Day! Let them cool and then dig in!

Now I want to share a little Valentine's Day inspiration from my Pinterest! Feel free to go check out my profile for even more inspiration!

and finally...

Sunday Sum-Up 2.9.2014

I just wanted to give myself a pat on the back for actually getting this post started on Sunday! If you follow my blog, you will notice I usually post my Sunday Sum-Ups on Monday or even Tuesday afternoon, but not this week.

However, I haven't done much that has been interesting this past week. I did get back some tests which did not improve my week one bit (must study more!). I also worked about 15 hours, which kept me quite busy. I managed to sleep a few hours each night... and multiple hours during the day. I also attended my first "Burn at the Barre" class.

If you have never been to a barre workout, I suggest you get up and go to one right this moment. It was one of the most intense workouts I have been to in a while. It challenged me not only physically but mentally. It is difficult to explain how it mentally challenged me, so I really will just leave that up to you to decide once you try it out. Needless to say, I will be going back this week to the class, and hopefully from now on!

With "all" that being said, I am done saying stuff.

I will be back tomorrow, lovelies!

Beth

Winter Must Haves

Hot and Cold
Humid and Dry
Sunny and Overcast

These all may seem like contradicting things but I assure you they all have something in common.

Each of these words is one way to describe Georgia's winter weather. We recently had three continuous days where snow lingered on the ground followed by a 70 degree day where it felt amazing to wear shorts. (This is no joke!)

It is a constant battle to not be constantly sick during a Georgia winter, but somehow I have managed to stay pretty healthy this winter.

Georgia winters also cause some serious damage to your hair and skin from the constant change in temperature and humidity.

Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite items I use to keep me all around healthy in the winter months.

1. I try to take a multi-vitamin each night because I know I do not get all the nutrients I need in my campus' cafeteria. I currently take Vitafusion's Multivites as my daily multi-vitamin, mainly because it's a gummy and who doesn't like gummies!

2. Along with my multi-vitamin, I have this growing obsession with juices. I really want to start making my own juices but that is currently not an option so I purchase these Odwalla juices (which are available to me in my campus "convenience" store. I really like how each bottle has like a million fruits and veggies in it and it also has many vitamins.

3. I use lotion like crazy in the winter. I constantly have dry skin that I struggle with and lotion is the only cure. I currently am obsessed with Bath and Body Works lotions, in most any scent. Above I have pictured wild honeysuckle which is one of my favorites, but I am currently using the Merry Marshmallow Kiss scent that I received as a gift for Christmas.

4. During the winter, my face is also extremely dry. When you combine my sensitive skin with the dryness of the winter you get a bad combination. However, I recently discovered this moisturizer at Target. The number one reason I chose this particular moisturizer is because I only had about $7 in the bank and this costs only a little over $5. I also made sure it was for sensitive skin before I snagged it. I do not know much about the brand but I do know it has worked wonders thus far and that I will be buying it again in the future.

5. My last winter necessity is the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition 3-minute undo. This leave-in conditioner works wonders on my hair after the cold and wind makes it brittle and after the humidity makes it all around gross. My brother was actually the person to introduce this to me and I would now recommend it to anyone.

There you have it! If you have any winter must haves, let me know and I will check them out!

Beth

Sunday Sum-Up 2.3.2014

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone has had a pretty great week. If you live in the south, I hope you got to experience Snowpocalypse 2014. (which for me was followed by 70 degree weather just two days later)

I personally was super excited for the snow because it was the first snow I have seen since 2010! At Mercer we got two days out of classes which I spent crafting, sleeping, and playing in the snow. It was like a weekend in the middle of the week.

It was an easy week to say the least, however, because of class cancellation, my tests got moved and I wound up taking my first biology and chemistry tests of the year today. It would not have been so bad except for the pouring rain I had to walk through to get to my 8am on the other side of campus. Anyway, I did well on my tests so I am happy!

*Look at these adorable pics of the Snowpocalypse!

So, since I've had such a great week I want to share with you a little bit of my inspiration!

My roommate recently challenged me to install a daily Bible verse app on my phone. The challenge is to open the app and read your verse as soon as you turn your alarm off and to live by that verse that day. Some days it is a struggle for me to read the verse first thing (because I forget), but so far I have not missed a full day of reading my verse. My verses this week have been:

1/27 - 1 Corinthians 13:4, 7-8
1/28 - Deuteronomy 6:4-7
1/29 - Hebrews 11:5, Genesis 5:24
1/30 - Psalm 89:1-2,5
1/31 - 1 Corinthians 2:9-10
2/1 - Proverbs 10:22 (I especially loved this one.)
2/2 - 2 Timothy 4:1-2

And today's verse is Isaiah 57:19 "I create the fruit of the lips: 'Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,' says the Lord; 'and I will heal them.'"
